Pete Alonso reportedly turned down the New York Mets' counteroffer in free agency. Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, Alonso's camp proposed

The New York Mets' brass, led by president David Stearns, are trying to work out a new contract with star first baseman Pete Alonso.

The expectation is that Alonso will re-sign with the Mets on a short-term, high AAV deal rather than the long-term $200 million contract. If this is the case, then, depending on the dollar amount, a deal could be considered imminent.
