A New Jersey teacher is facing charges after police say she is accused of sexually abusing one of her students and having his child.

A 34-year-old New Jersey teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a student when the child resided in her home several years ago. Between 2016 and 2020, Laura R. Caron, of the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township, sexually assaulted a student born in 2005, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Laura Caron, a 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School, allegedly had an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with the student when they lived together at Caron’s home in Cape May Court House, an unincorporated community, between 2016 and 2020, according to a press release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

The alleged crime went unnoticed until December when the victim's father reportedly saw a photo of the now 5-year-old child, noticed a family resemblance and posted about it on Facebook.
