Apple is about to release an update for every iPhone that can run iOS 26, for users who don’t want it. And it’s probably the last chance to avoid iOS 26.

In a support document published on Friday, Apple said that a "technical failure" in Australia prevented some older mobile phones from being able to make emergency calls by dialing 000, and it said there is a low chance that it could happen again.

OS 26 compatible devices include iPhone 11 to iPhone 17 and SE 2/3; XS, XR dropped. Apple update adds Liquid Glass UI and AI tools for newer models.

Apple on Wednesday said it has opened iPhones to alternative app stores in Japan to comply with new laws aimed at stoking competition in that country's smartphone market.
