Former US president Barack Obama went solo to Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on Monday. Last week, his wife and ex-first lady Michelle Obama declared her intentions to skip the event. But what was behind her choice?

This is not the first time Michelle Obama has skipped an official event, supposed to attend with their husband. Earlier, she skipped former US president Jimmy Carter’s funeral this month.

A source familiar with the Obamas’ circle told Page Six last week that Michelle would not be attending Monday’s ceremony because she is “no phony.”
